About the CMYK to Pantone Converter
Artwork often arrives built from process inks when the job actually calls for a spot colour: a two colour flyer, a garment print, a foil, or a logo that has to stay identical across a dozen suppliers. Enter the CMYK percentages as cmyk(0%, 100%, 81%, 11%), one build per line, and each is matched to the closest Pantone reference in the table.
The conversion runs in two hops. Your ink percentages are first turned into an sRGB colour so they can be seen, then into CIELAB so the comparison is perceptual. Both hops are approximations, and the first is the weaker of the two: real process output depends on paper, dot gain, ink limits and the press profile, none of which a formula can know. Expect a slightly larger delta E here than you would get starting from a HEX code.
Spot inks earn their cost in specific situations. They hold a flat, consistent colour across long runs, they reach oranges and blues that four colour printing cannot, and on a two colour job they are cheaper than a full process run.
