About the Strikethrough Text Generator
A struck-through price is the fastest way to signal a discount, and a struck-through sentence is the internet shorthand for a joke you are pretending to take back. Facebook supports neither, so this tool appends U+0336, the combining long stroke overlay, after every character. Fonts draw that stroke through the glyph it follows, which produces a continuous line across the whole phrase including the spaces.
Six other overlays are on the menu. The short stroke stops at the letter edges rather than joining up. The solidus draws a diagonal slash through each character. The wavy tilde suggests something unstable. Single and double underlines and an overline complete the set, and they behave the same way: one combining mark per character, no formatting layer required.
Line breaks are skipped so a multi-line listing keeps its structure, but ordinary spaces are struck so the rule looks unbroken. If you would rather the line stopped at each word, strike the words individually and rejoin them by hand.
The output roughly doubles in character count because every visible glyph now carries a hidden partner. That matters when a field has a length limit, and it is why deleting struck text sometimes needs two presses of backspace per letter.

How to use
- Paste the words you want crossed out.

Common questions
- Does Facebook support strikethrough formatting?
- Not through the interface. The composer stores plain text, so the crossing line has to come from combining characters embedded in the words.
- Why does my text count as twice as many characters?
- Each visible letter gains an invisible combining mark, so a ten letter word becomes twenty code points.
- Can I strike through emoji and numbers?
- Yes. The overlay is applied after every character except line breaks, so digits and most emoji get the line too.
- How do I remove the strikethrough later?
- Retype the text, or delete every U+0336 character. Editing struck text in place is awkward because each letter carries a hidden partner.
