About the Online Scoreboard
Table tennis in the office, five a side in the park, a quiz at home: the score is easy to keep and easy to lose track of. This page puts two large numbers on the screen with a button under each, so whoever is nearest can tap without breaking the game. Name the sides after the players, set how many points a tap is worth, and it behaves like the scoreboard on the wall of a sports hall.
Points per tap covers the games that do not count in ones. Basketball needs two and three, darts and quizzes often need five, and the minus button under each side undoes a mistake one point at a time. Set a winning score and the line under the board announces the winner as soon as either side reaches it, which saves arguing about whether the game was to eleven or fifteen.
The score is written to browser storage after every tap, so a refresh, an accidental back button or a locked phone screen does not wipe it. It is stored only on the device you are using and is never sent anywhere, which also means the tablet propped against the net cannot show a score tapped in on a phone across the room. Turn the memory off for a board that always starts at zero. Swap sides exchanges the two numbers when the teams change ends, and Copy puts the current line on the clipboard for a group chat.
How to use
- Type the two team or player names in the toolbar.
- Choose how many points one tap should add.
- Tap the big button under a side each time it scores, or the minus button to correct.
- Press Reset to 0 - 0 between games, or Swap sides when ends change.
Common questions
- Will the score survive a page refresh?
- Yes, as long as the memory option is ticked. The two numbers are written to browser storage after every tap and read back when the page loads.
- Can two devices show the same score?
- No. The board is entirely local to one browser, so a second device runs its own independent count.
- How do I keep the screen awake during a game?
- Raise the screen timeout in the device settings, or use full screen and tap the board occasionally, which counts as activity on most phones.
- Can I score in threes and ones on the same board?
- Set the tap value to three, then use the minus button to take one back when a smaller score is needed.
