About the Animal Fusion Generator

Each line pairs two of 80 real animals and hands the hybrid two abilities pulled from a list of 61 things those animals actually do: regrowing limbs, hearing through the jawbone, navigating by magnetic field, opening shellfish with a stone. Because the abilities are real rather than invented, the result gives an artist or a game master something concrete to reason about instead of a vague mash-up.

The pairing is deliberately unfiltered, so an otter can meet an albatross and a jellyfish can meet a yak. Around one line in eighty will pair an animal with itself, which is a fine prompt in its own right if you read it as a doubled version of the same creature. Turn off repeats and ask for twenty at once when you want a page of prompts for a sketch session or a class exercise.

Artists tend to use the first half of the line for the silhouette and the second half for the details: which limbs, which eyes, which surface. Writers can treat the two abilities as the creature's single advantage and single tell. Are the abilities real?
Yes. Every ability in the list is something the animals in the pool genuinely do, from echolocation to shedding a limb to escape.
Why did it pair an animal with itself?
Both halves are drawn independently from the same pool of 80 animals, so an occasional match is expected. Press Generate again for a new pair.
Can I use these for a game or comic?
Yes. The animals and their traits are factual descriptions, so nothing here is owned by anyone and you can build on it freely.
How many combinations are there?
